Ankeen Rose is an abstract glass painter, with a background in traditional stained glass. Her interest in glass began at an early age, watching the light move through the old colored bottles that her father collected in his library. Her glass education began at Syracuse University and brought her to Pilchuck Glass School where she took a class with John Reyntiens. After a lot of convincing, he agreed to have her move to London to be his apprentice for a few months, where she learned the art of glass painting from his father, Patrick Reyntiens. After moving to Brooklyn in 2008, she apprenticed for David Frasier of the Stained Glass Conservation Center of Brooklyn.
Her current work explores the intricacy of grieving emotion and loss through the layering :: removal of lead oxide and household chemicals. Each layer is expressed through the manipulation of each chemical reaction with a badger brush.
Ankeen Rose splits her time between Brooklyn, New Orleans, and Adelaide. She currently lives in Brooklyn with her partner.
